In his essay Ornament and Crime, Adolf Loos argues that ornament and decorations are unnecessary and disadvantageous in a modern society. He claims decorating people’s faces and bodies with tattoos and painting walls with arousing symbols are considered immoral and should be removed in modern times. Also, Loos explains objects with decorations were valuable in the past, but cultured people prefer the plain look since they appreciate simplicity; ornament can no longer be pleasurable to them.
