Hi,
What do we call the act of asking a girl for a marriage? In Iran there is a very formal preparation and ritual in which the groom's family go to bride's house for this purpose.
I just wanted to see whether we have such a ceremony in English?

A proposal. A proposal of marriage. In the U.S. I suppose the only cases where there exists any sort of ritual are in immigrant groups.
