Suitable for drinking

Hello everyone.

Could you please evaluate each of the following three sentences depending on whether it is natural?

(A) The water of that river is suitable for drinking.

(B) The water of that river is suitable to drink.

(C) The water of that river is proper to drink.

Top answer

Only (A) strikes me as completely natural, though (B) and (C) aren't really too bad. Note that 'proper' has a different meaning; it's not the same as 'suitable'. Opinions may vary on this point.
