Suitable/ Compatible

Recently, I 've had an argue with my colleague about the word "suitable" in the sentence "The computer can do anything you ask it to with suitable hardware and software."

He said that suitable can't go with things related to computer like software and hardware. The right choice here is compatible.

Is it right that suitable can't be used in the sentence? Please help me to explain this.

Thanks a lot.

"He said that suitable can't go with things related to computer like software and hardware. Is it right that suitable can't be used in the sentence? Both are OK; 'compatible' is merely more highly collocated with 'computer'.

suitable hardware and software means it will serve your purpose.

eg If you want to do a lot of fast Google searches, a low-speed internet connection is not suitable.

compatible hardware and software means it will run on your computer.

eg a program written for a Mac may not be compatible with your Windows operating system.
