sugget to edit vs suggest editing

What is the implications to the meaning of the sentences below?

e.g "I suggest to edit this sentence to ......"

and

" I suggest editing this sentence to ...."

I do not think that there is a difference of using gerund or infinitive after "suggest", though there is a slight difference when it comes to the verbs of emotion (hate), completion/incompletion (start, continue, stop), and remembering (remember, forget, regret).

Suggest to edit is not a grammatically viable phrase. Only the second example here is workable.
