Hello folks, I?ve only posted here once before and it, too was a request for assistance (thanks, MC!). If you don?t take kindly to non- contributors coming into the group and asking for a cup of brains, please don?t give this post another thought. However, if anyone feels like it, I?d be grateful for any thoughts you may have. Here?s the situation. A few co-writers and I are getting fairly far along with developing a reality show, and are expecting to meet with a few networks in the next month or two. We?d like to be able to give them ideas for who could be the host. (I can?t provide any details about the show I realize this may hamper your ability to help.)
This is one of those shows where the host is really crucial; like, say, Mike Rowe in ?Dirty Jobs.? Ideally they?d be curious, enthusiastic, sincere, sharp, funny, and interesting in their own right. We?re thinking about three main categories of person, and I?m wondering if any names occur to you in any of the categories.
First, actors and/or comedians we?ve heard of. Michael Palin and Alan Alda would be two examples of such hosts, though we?d want someone in their late-20s to early 30s. (Part of what make Palin and Alda such good hosts is their wealth of life experience; nonetheless, we have to work within that age restriction.) This person would also have to be potentially interested in hosting a reality show, so it?s likely they?d either be at a pause in their career or have not yet quite made it big. (By the way, the show isn?t a vulgar monstrosity like so many reality shows it?s respectable.) They?re the kind of person you may have seen here or there on TV or in movies and thought to yourself, ?Wow, what a cool person! I really wish they would get more work. They seem to have a ton to offer, but I bet they?re just not quite right for Hollywood?s cookie cutter.? (Presumably you thought it to yourself in a less stilted way.) Second, personalities we?ve heard of. This is a broad category and might include, say, ex-reality show contestants and ex-professional athletes probably ex-(a lot of things), the important thing being that they were seen to be interesting/unusual/charismatic during their time in the public awareness, but haven?t quite found a niche since then. The third category is unknowns. In this case, it?s not possible to provide names no one knows who they are yet! But I?m hoping there are examples of unknowns who were hired as hosts of shows (preferably reality shows) and became popular, well-liked figures.
Again, I?ll appreciate any suggestions people may have. Cheers, in any case. H.

[nq:1]I like Anthony Bourdain[/nq] I do too, but there is something faintly irritating about him too. Did you catch the one on Greece that aired this week? I know his guide, Byron Ayanoglu - a wonderful guy. For a while he was the itinerant chef for the Rolling Stones, and he's written a number of books.
