If you are reading the thread and it seems to you that someone has written a great answer, you can "suggest" it as a good answer. A moderator can then change it to a "verfied" good answer.

A moderator can designate any answer as a good answer, and can also un-verify an answer if it turns out not to have been a good resopnse.

You can try to verfiy one in a thread you've started to see how it works. Like I said, a moderator can always un-verify if it's an incorrect answer.

The purpose is to raise that "good" answer to the spot directly below the original post so people who think "Oh, good question - let me see what the answer is" can get the answer right away, without sifting through pages of responses.
