I thought it would maybe more polite with "suggest" than with "you should".
For me it's a little difficult to understand why e.g. "I suggested going in my car." is right but if it's used with "speaking" (in the way mentioned above) it's wrong. But maybe there is no real rule, it only sounds weird in this context. I have to keep this in mind.
