Suffered blackout

During the thunderstorm, the power plant was struck by lightning and the whole city suffered blackout for several hours.

HI,
Is it better to replace "suffered blackout" in the above with "suffered from blackout" because of being followed by "for several hours?" Thanks.

I am not familiar with the expression 'suffer blackout', so I would include 'from'.
