Suffer vs. lose out

Hi

Would you say that suffer and lose out are equally natural here? What would you use?

  1. If things go wrong, I'll be the one to lose out, not you.
  2. If things go wrong, I'll be the one to suffer, not you.

Thanks,

Tom

Both are acceptable and sound natural (although use of the word "suffer" might seem a bit more dramatic to some).

lose out suggests you lose an opportunity to gain some kind of advantage over other people.

suffer does not really suggest this.
