suds and foams

Could any explain to me what the difference between "suds" and "foams" is?

My dictionary gives almost the same meaning for both the words. i.e. small bubbles formed on the surface of a liquid.

  • e.
  • small bubbles formed on the surface of a liquid.
  • Suds = the mass of small bubbles that form on the surface of soapy water [soapsuds] Foam = a mass of very small bubbles formed on the surface of a liquid There is very little difference in concept of a mass of bubbles, but I would not generally use "suds" for anything except soapy water.
