Which is correct?

We discuss issues such as education and media.
We discuss such issues as education and media.

Are they both correct? If so, which is more common?

They are both correct and common. My feeling is that the latter is slightly more formal.

When I say

SHould I put "THE" in front of "issues"?

We discuss the issues such as education?
