Which of the following sentences is correct:

1. Barbara has such a charming personality that makes her welcome among friends.

2. Barbara has such a charming personality that it makes her welcome among friends.

To me, this throws up the strange situation whereby #1 feels awkward because one expects the pattern of #2, yet #2 also seems flawed. " However, the other picky comment I would make is that one is "welcome among friends" almost by definition, irrespective of one's charm. For this reason, the whole logic of the sentence seems vaguely unsatisfactory to me.
