Such as versus like

Hi.

What is the difference between like and such as in contexts like the following one.

There were different kinds of sea foods in the party such as fish, prawn, lobster.

I quess I would be more inclined to use "such as" than "like" in a formal situation but I'm not convinced that there's a significant difference.

in formal texts, such as essays and academic papers, it is not common to use "etc.". instead they use the words like "SUCH AS". for this use "like" is not applicable that much.
