SUCH AS

In no other historical sighting did Halley's Comet cause such a worldwide sensation as in its return of 1910-1911.

...bit confused about the usage of such as.... I dont think SUCH AS is used in above sentence to list out examples... and more over AS does not introduce a clause...but ETS says it correct one..

Am i missing out something? Please help me out
