Such as

Sir,

Most states of India have festivals of their own, such as , Onam in Kerla, Durga puja in West BEngal.

What is the function of "such as" here. I want to know the part of speech to which it belong.

Thanks.

'Such as' functions as an indicator of the apposition between the noun ('festivals') and the example ('Onam' etc). I'd call it an adverbial conjunct, but maybe Casi can dissect the phrase further.
