Successful

Is the word 'successful' OK here?

The meaning of the underlined phrase is: a number of times when those who did the study managed to place the tube where they had planned

Calculation of a number of successful chest tube positions in relation to the total number of tube thoracostomy was performed.

Thank you in advance

I think "successful" is OK; there are a couple of other grammatical errors, but even if those are fixed the sentence as a whole is not great IMO. " One further quibble: "calculated the number of times ... in relation to" seems a slightly vague and imprecise form of words for a scientific subject.

  • If you're calculating a ratio, or percentage, of the total, then I think it would be better to explicitly say so.

"We calculated the number of times the chest tube was successfully placed in the intended position in relation to the total number of tube thoracostomies performed."
