Subway franchise

A member of the group, a chemist in a lab, opened a Subway franchise as a means of raising money.
I think Subway should be a restaurant here. But what is a Subway franchise?

Top answer

Chain restaurants such as Subway give a franchise to a party who is willing to take it over for their own profit. If the person does well, so does Subway. If the person fails, the location still belongs to the mother company, Subway.

That may well be the correct legal term. It seems to make sense to me.
