Sub/verb agreement

Hiya

I`m stuck. Could someone please help me..

Regarding sub/verb agreement.

I think cellphones is very useful. Is this OK? Could someone break this sentence down for me into its component parts. e.g. What is the subject etc?

Also, about the use of someone/anyone.

Did someone/anyone throw something down the whole?

Which is better and why?

They mean the same don`t they but are not always transferable?

Also, is this reply OK as a reply?

Yes, they did. (Yes, he/she did is wrong?)

Many Thanks

Cheers - Joe

Thanks for the reply.

Does adding the word using change it?

I think using cell phones is/are useful. Which is best?

Yes, 'using' is a non-count concept, so the verb would now be 'is'-- but the sentence you have created is terrible: "Using...is useful'?? Stick with the original.
