Subtract

We have a scale at home that does not work properly. It adds three kilos to your original weight. If my mom weighed herself and had sixty kilos, could I ask her: ''Didn't you forget to subtract the three kilos?''?

Is the word 'subtract' the one I should use?

Thank you.

"subtract" is fine.

''Didn't you forget to subtract the three kilos?'' suggests that you believe she did forget, e.g. based on the weight she told you.

For a more neutral question, ask ''Did you remember to subtract the three kilos?''
