subtitles or not

Question

0 Hello everybody I have a question when you watch movies in english it's better to watch them in subtitles in english or spanish or without subtitles.. as well another question how to learn pronunciation better? I am going to an english school but my teachers are mexican I dont trust in their pronunciation.. some of them have bad pronunciation.. I am sure about that I hope your help in my questions 0-

0Hello, Supernatural. I recommend avoiding subtitles as much as possible-- watchers tend to read instead of listen. When I use videos with subtitles in my classes, I tape a strip of cardboard to the bottom of the TV screen in order to hide the subtitling.02br

00I have find my attentions focus better on the actors/movie rather than the subtitles when I have them hidden. If you want to improve your listening as well as speaking. It is best to avoid subtitles. As 01b00 00Mister Micawber02b00 has mentioned, with subtitles you tend to read the subtitles than listening to the actor. 02br

00Here is what I do when I watch an English movie with subtitles. I force myself to look at the movie scene rather than the subtitle when I watch one, unless the subtitles are not in the movie screen (which I can just pull the movie down to hide the subtitle). Then, when I get to parts where I don't understand what they are saying, I will replay that part several times to see if I can comprehend any of it. If after say 5 or 10x of repeating the audio, but still can't understand, then I will look up the subtitle. 02br

00That is my way of using movie with subtitle. I feel that way will be more effective for listening/speaking. The con about doing it this way is you can't fully enjoy the movie as much as with subtitles. Well at least that is how I feel. Because with subtitles, you normally can everything throughout the movie, which is how I like to watch a movie. I like it smooth through rather than pausing every few minutes. But for the purpose of improving speaking/listening, there are things that should be sacrificed. And eventually when you get better, you won't even need to do those process again and again. You will be able to watch movie smoothly and still understand them without the use of subtitles.02br

00Right now for myself, I am currently using some of the audio books/CDs that I bought online and trying them out. Some of them are quite helpful. But overall, there are a lot of practices needed to improve pronunciation. 0 I prefer English subtitles. I've tried but I really can't catch much without subtitles. I found myself less dependant to the subtitles compared to when I used subtitles in my mother tongue. And, I can understand better. I'll try to avoid subtitles when I can understand better... 0-
