Man:- what was you doing here, anyway.

Woman:- we was after some fool named Israel.


Now I don't understand the conversation why they'd used "was" instead of "were" and he could have asked that lady "what was the reason of you to be doing here"


Please explain I saw this communication in a movie subtitle called "smokin Aces".
