subsequent mention

Hi,

If we have situations where the phrases like "page 2", "chapter 2", "Road number 2" and "next week" are mentioned subsequently, can we or must we put the article "the" in front of them?

e.g.

Page 2 of this book has an overview of the types of programs being offered. The page 2 has an extensive list of currently available programs in this province.

We have ten meetings next week. The next week will be a very busy week. (I don't think this needs the article "the." What is your take on this?)

Why do you need to repeat the same word? You can replace "Page 2" with the pronoun "It". Do the same with "next week".

  • You don't need "the" with Page 2.
  • Also you don't need "the" in "The next week" if this phrase is the subject of the sentence.

Or you could say "that page" or "that road" since you have already established what page and what road.
