Subjunctive mood or No subjunctive mood?

When you get lost in a place where you don't know your way around,
you may feel as if you ( ) in another world.

1) have lost
2) had lost

Which form would you choose? The grammar rule book usually says that I should go for the 2) version. However, in daily English, people seem to use both without thinking much about the written rules. So I always wonder how to teach this concept to students.

Neither is correct. You need either 'have had lost your way' or 'were/are lost'. All are acceptable.

I see. Thank you very much. Could I just write this sentence even without using the "as if" format, as in,
You may feel you have wandered into another world?
