Subjunctive

0Hi,02br
02br
00Could you please tell me whether the underlined part in the subordinate clause can be "were" instead the one used? I think more context might be needed but hoping for the best. I think as it is, it is a typical type 3 conditional. I might add that the person was in store trying to buy a shirt. 02br
02br
00 If it 01u00had been02u00 a short-sleeve model, I would have snatched it up, but now I have my eyes peeled.02br
02br
00Sorry, this just came up, what is the difference? a short-sleeve model and a short-sleeved model0-

0Yes, you need 01u01i00had been02i02u00 (because it shows an unsuccessful attempt made before this 01b00now02b00 moment in the past; 01i00were02i00 would mean simultaneity with it) and you need 01b00had02b00, because you refer to a moment in the past, even if it's actualized with 01b

0Without some strict logic, we can't decide on this one:02br
00- first the object exists02br
00- later (thus not simultaneously, thus we need 01b00had been02b00), I am snatching it02br
00- even later, I am not satisfied and keep my eyes open 02br
02br
00have: for 01i00now02i00 in the present0

00 Well, it never ceases to exist untill it is disposed of...02br

00 "- later (thus not simultaneously, thus we need had been), I am snatching it"02br
00 I'd say it happens simultaneously w

0 Forget about it, I won't stay here any more. I don't like to be tortured. I say what I say and that's it. 0-

0 I would just say the difference is:02br
00If it was... (but it's not)02br
00If it had been... (but it was not)02br
02br
00So it depends on the context and what you want to say... or how you want to say it.02br
00Some people use the past instead of the subjunctive, like in "If I knew you were coming, I would have baked you a cake! (but I d
