Subject: Work

Topic: It is neither possible nor useful for country to provide university places for a high proportion of young people. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people think that the goal of increasing the percentage of universities for youngster is not possible nor useful. In my opinion, I completely agree with the idea is that it is not realistic for a high proportion of young people to pursue university studies.

On the one hand, there are some reasons why building more universities is not necessary. First, the expenditure on constructing facilities as well as employing professional teacher team costs a fortune. Therefore, instead of having more universities with low standard, government can spend money providing foreign scholarships for good students. Second, some nations still are facing poverty and hunger. It means allocating resources to deal with these problems is in higher priorities. If government concentrates on increasing universities, a part of citizen may be died due to lack of food basic needs.

On the other hands, adding too much university is really not useful in some ways. First of all, the standard of students tends to decrease gradually. I mean the more university places are built, the more the demand of student increase. As a result, the number of university degrees gravitates toward growing, but in fact, the quality is not the same way. Furthermore, vocational training is essential to have a workforce with practical skills. By vocational courses for school-leavers or people who are on the job in diverse fields, they can gain more knowledge as well as enhancing their skills to find a suitable job or promote their careers.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that policy makers aim at expanding the number university places are impossible or useless.
