Are the below the above grammar pattern?

1. I'll ask her a history question.

2. I'll show here a DVD

3. I'll give her flowers

4. I'll show her the way

Below is different isn't it

They call him Bill.

Subject+ Verb+ Object1+ Complement

How do we distinguish complements from Object 2? Is it simply a the an, but flowers is plural but you can put the flowers.I'll give her the flowers. Thanks Koji

The object is a receiver of an action done by the doer of the action, i.e. by the subject. So in your examples a history question, a DVD, flowers and the way are direct objects of my action.

In the They call him Bill the direct object is the pronoun him which has an additional information about it in the form of the object complement Bill. Compare: They call Bill where Bill is the object of their action and They call him Bill where Bill is an object complement.

Subject + Verb+ Object1+ Object 2
