Subject Verb Agreement

This sentence is from a news report in BBC.

I was surprised seeing "are" here.

Shouldn't it be "is"?

Cooking oils are a kitchen staple. But there’s a lot of conflicting information regarding how healthy each of them are.

I would correct that to "is".
