Subject-verb agreement

Hello. I'd loke to know if this centence is correct.

Collecting metals from electronic waste and reusing them to make other products is called the “urban mining industry.” In the sentence gerunds (collecting, reusing) are used as a subject. In this case, is the verb 'is' correct not 'are'?

Hope to hear your answer soon, thank you.
