subject verb agreement

Dear grammarians, Which one would you say is correct,

1) The occasional healthy meal and a little exercise *is* simply not enough to solve the problem.

or

2) The occasional healthy meal and a little exercise are simply not enough to solve the problem.

For some reason 2) would seem to be grammatically correct, but 1) sounds, i don't know, somehow right? Perhaps it
s something to do with "exercise" being uncountable?...

Probably. Or the speaker is thinking of the single regimen. But you needn't worry overmuch. A native is liable to say either.
