subject verb agreement

Should I use "is" or "are " in the following sentences?
Obtaining and wearing eyeglasses is(are) easy.
Cleaning and disinfecting on contact lenses is(are) necessary to prevent infection.

Thank you for the quick responses. It seems to me that "obtaining"and "wearing" are two separate actions. or are they considered as a sigle action in the first sentence? ( I understand why the second sentences take "are".) Please help me.

That is why I said 'is' is the natural response (considering the unnatural content of the sentence—no one would add 'wearing', which would be assumed).

I wanted to emphasize two actions so that I can contrast the differences between eyeglasses use and contact lenses use, but I think I need more context in order to do it. Thank you.

It seems to me it would always be:

---ing and ---ing something IS/WAS/{singular verb} {adjective / singular noun}.

where "something" is the direct object of both verbs.
