Subject verb agreement

Hi,

I have difficulty in identifying the subject. For example:

May loves to swim.

From what I had studied, I know that subject is the one that affects the verb.

In this case the verb is : loves

Who loves? May -->Subject

I am able to identify subject in simple sentences.But once it comes to complex one, I start to encounter problems.

Thanks!

Cheers,
