Subject-Verb Agreement?

Actually, I am not entirely sure that this is an example of subject-verb agreement, but I am not sure what else to call it. I am writing a lesson plan, and I am not sure which sentence would be correct:

I will explain to students that their reflective paragraphs should describe an indicent when they experienced injustice.

I will explain to students that their reflective paragraphs should describe an indicent when he or she experienced injustice.

I don't want to imply that students should be writing reflective paragraphs that describe an incident when the entire class collectively experienced injustice. Does this make sense? I am not entirely sure how to articulate this. Thanks in advance!

Dear teacher, I read your writing topic and it seems clear to me that it refers to the individual and not the class. If you phrase your topic like: Please write a description of an incident in which you felt that you personally were the victim of injustice. Then, they will not think that you mean the whole class.

Thank you so much for the reply! I am an aspiring teacher, actually! The assignment is to create a lesson plan, and the aforementioned sentence is part of the lesson plan that I, as the teacher, would have to follow. So I guess that it really does not matter all that much, so long as I know what the sentence means. I would just like to be careful how I articulate things.
