Subject predicate agreement

Dear teacher

There is a sentence 'Every parent wants their child to be the best.'

I know there's something wrong with it but how to correct?

If the subject is singular , should I use ' his child' or 'her child '

thank you very much

Top answer

composition Every parent wants their child to be the best. 'there' is absolutely OK here, even though there is no concord of number. It's a politically correct form, as his or her may be judged as sexist.
