subject or direct object?

Good day helpful Gurus, can you tell me if this is correct?
Last year her project was successful.
adverbial subject or *d.o.? +v.p. subject complement

Unfortunately, the government's policy is very changeable these days.

Last year her project was successful. So now that this question answers subject it is subject attribute. You cant make this sentence passive right?

Yes yes you are right but don't use verb phrase for was.It is a verb phrase but your grammar teacher may want you to group them as categories and functions.So, as a function was is predicator, as a category it is verb phrase.

I don't know whether it is proven or not but our teachers teach us like this and I really differentiate them using this way and till now I haven't encountered with a problem.Do you think it is wrong?
