Subject or complement ?

Hi.

Please see this question and the two answers.

"What is your favorite music?"

"Rock is."

or

" It's rock."

If 'What' is the subject on this sentence, I think that "Rock is." will be the answer for it.

If " your favorite music" is the subject on this sentence, "It's rock." will be the answer.

I want to know which do English-speaking people prefer for this question.

If my idea is not correct, please let me know.

Thanks.
