Subject of

Hi,

In the following example, how do you interpret the meaning of 'subject of'?

I have encountered it many times from Commercial law book this semester at Uni, but I just could not figure out what it actually means...

I looked at the dictionary, but it only has meanings of 'subject' which I know.

Could anyone please help me on it, thank you.

Example:

Invention means any manner of new manufacture the subject of letters patent...

Top answer

/* The subject of something such as a conversation, letter, or book is the thing that is being discussed or written about - from google dictionary... " after all. Sorry, I think I missed putting a verb in the example above.

  • /* The subject of something such as a conversation, letter, or book is the thing that is being discussed or written about - from google dictionary...
  • " after all.
  • Sorry, I think I missed putting a verb in the example above.
  • Anyway, I think I got what it really means now.
  • I should've looked at the meanings more carefully, because it was in the dictionary after all.
