Subject and object questions

Help! I'm finding it difficult to understand this. Example"How many hours do you work?" "Who became Prime Minister at the last election?" "Who has a dog?" Which are subject and which object questions and why?

Top answer

The first is looking for the object-- the number of hours worked by the person . The other two questions are asking for the subject-- who became and who has . Is that what you mean?

If the answer goes in the subject positiion, it's a subject question. If the answer goes in the object position, it's an object question. I assume you already know how to identify the subject and the object in a statement.

Who has a dog? Susan has a dog. Fred has a dog.
