Subcategorization

Hello,
I'm a student of English Philology, English is my second language, and in my essay about Subcategorization in Morpho-syntax I should explain why c-selection in terms of phrases (V, [ NP]) is superior to the subcategorization in terms of functions (V + Obj). Would you have any advice how I can start or any helpful examples?
