Study one's face?/ see how the wind blow?

What would you say in this situation?

For example, I still live with my parents. I'm not really comfortable when doing something such as playing a computer game because they will think I'm too old to play a game! So in this situation can I say 'I study their face when I play a computer game'? or.. 'I see how the wind blows first before I play a computer game'?
