"Study author..."- Incorrect?

Hello, I live in Israel and I'm in my first year of my English degree.
Last week me and my friend lectured our class about a certain subject, and today I got evaluated on it.
I had one mistake according to my teacher. I used the phrase "The study author" (which was written in the specific article I was lecturing the class about, by the way), and my teacher claims it is incorrect. She says it's possible to say "The author of the study", but she thinks my way of saying it is definitely incorrect.

I've tried Googling it and I've tried asking friends. I'm pretty confident that I've heard this phrase before, but I need your help.
Who's right? Who's wrong?
Is it really incorrect?

Hello I'm a first year college student in Israel, majoring in English. Today my Oral Proficiency teacher gave me an evaluation for a lecture I presented in front of my class last week. She told me I had one mistake; I said "The study author" when referring to a certain person from the article I was talking about, and she claims the correct way to say it is "the author of the study", and that my way is incorrect.

  • I should mention that the phrase "the study author" was mentioned in the text, so I was merely repeating what I read.
  • Plus, I've seen it written many times before and actually found a few sources online that used that phrase.

I could accept the study's author, but the study author sounds unnatural to me.

The author of the study -- BEST
The study's author -- OK
The study author -- INCORRECT

There are cases where the possessive 's form is not used for certain inaminate objects, furniture, or buildings, but this is not universally applied. For example, it is rare to hear, "the table's edge" and much more common to hear "the edge of the table." Also, sometimes the possessive form is

I wouldn't say it's wrong. It's just a bit casual.
More formal is the study's author / the author of the study.

You appear to have misunderstood the question, Professor.

You should use either the study's author, or (much better) the author of the study.
In English we frequently use an attributive noun to modify another noun, but this is not one of those cases.

If there are more authors, then the authors of the study.
