Study abroad

Hi Sir, some of my colleages study locally but I was study abroad. Am I right to correc to tell them

"I was a foreign student, I came back and work here five years ago"

I'd think of a foreign student as someone from another country who cam to study in my country. I wouldn't use it for someone of my nationality who studied abroad - you aren't 'foreign' to me (of another nationality). So I wouldn't use that phrase.

I studied overseas/abroad and then returned here to work five years ago.
