Help me to form some questions.

Suppose I go out for a survey for education awareness. How will I ask these questions?

How long/far have you studied?

How long/far have your parents studied?

I know I cam simply ask what is your education level but this wouldn't convey the meaning I want to imply or assert.

Please explain between long and far in these sentences? Thank you.

Those questions are not natural. Say eg How many years of education do you have? eg How many years of secondary and post-secondary education do you have?
