What does "studies" mean when we say "He is good at/in studies" ?

Is this usage common among natives ?

Hi, I've never heard the phrase like that .. common usage in my part of the English-speaking world would be: "he's good at his studies" with the possessive his. I've never heard of such a phrase using 'in' Best wishes, Bob Golden DLTC Language School Dublin Ireland
