Students of or in a programme

Hi,

Could you tell me whether both of these sentences are correct? The first one was suggested to me by a native speaker.

“This course is intended for students who are in their second year od higher in the bachelor’s programme.”

“This course is intended for students who are in their second or higher year of study of the bachelor’s programme.”

Thank you!
