Students of

Hi,

I came across this sentence and I wanted to ask you if it's correct.

"The programme is intended for students of the second year and higher year of study of the bachelor's programme."

It sounds a bit wordy to me and a native speaker once told me that I shouldn't say 'student of ... year'.

I'd probably say 'students who are in their second or higher year of study of the bachelor's programme'.

What do you think?

I agree with you that it doesn't sound good. I would use "in their second year or higher", and I would also avoid using "programme" twice in that sentence. For example: The course is intended for students in their second year or higher in the bachelor's programme.
