Do these words mean the same?

I would say that every title for a student that you've mentioned would be considered correct, but (at least in American English) the three in the right column are much more commonly used. "University" and "college" do not have the same meaning even though they are often used interchangeably. A university is an institution which houses many different schools, such as a medical school, business school, engineering school, et cetera.

  • A college is simply one of those schools, but is used most often in reference to the humanities (language, art, literature, et cetera).
