Stuck with a Word, Stuck on a Word

Which would you use if you have been trying to figure out the usage of a word with great difficulty?

1. I've been stuck with the word.
2. I've been stuck on the word.

I would use stuck on, especially if I have a long list of words and I can't get past the word, or if I were writing an essay.
