Strut and Swagger

Hi

I want to know if the words strut and swagger are completely synonymous and equally natural.

She strutted/swaggered towards the stage.

Thanks,

Tom

American Heritage lists them as synonymous. However, for some reason, I picture swaggering with more side-to-side motion. I have no idea why.

Strut - A trot or a fast walk by lifting your legs higher up than normal.

Swagger - a lazy, slow but very confident walk (like you own the place).
