Strunk,Chicago, Gowers, etc.

0 I've been searching for a British English equivalent to Strunk and White, and Elements of Style. So far, no dice. Is there such an animal in the UK? The nearest I can think of is Ernest Gowers's original 'Complete Plain Words', which we read for GCE O-levels in England in 1956. Then, at age 18, I was a cub reporter for a while, and we had a style manual which apparently had been compiled by our parent organization. So, as far as I can see there's no universally accepted manual, and each publication promulgates its own. 0-
